What a complete ac / hvac estimate includes

- Equipment brand AND model numbers (condenser, air handler), tonnage, SEER2 rating
- Whether tonnage/sizing is justified (load calc mentioned) vs copied from the old unit
- Ductwork scope: replaced, sealed, or untouched
- Line set, thermostat, drain, pad, electrical disconnect included or excluded
- Permit included; warranty split: parts vs labor vs compressor, and who registers it
Red flags in any trade
- A single lump-sum number with no line items - you can't compare what you can't see
- "Contractor grade" or "builder grade" materials with no brand named
- A big deposit demanded before any materials are ordered
- No mention of permits on work that plainly needs one
- Pressure to sign today because "this price expires tonight"
