South Carolina residential license
South Carolina requires a residential builder license from the Residential Builders Commission for residential work costing more than $5,000, and a residential specialty license or registration for specialty work, including roofing, costing more than $500. A specialty contractor doing a job over $5,000 for a property owner must be bonded. A contractor who was required to be licensed or registered and was not cannot file a mechanics' lien or sue to enforce the contract.

Cancelling an insurance-paid roof contract (South Carolina)
When a South Carolina roofing contract will be paid from a property insurance claim, the homeowner may cancel it until midnight of the fifth business day after the insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered. The contractor must provide a bold cancellation statement and a detachable "Notice of Cancellation" form, may not require payment until the cancellation period has expired (except for emergency work the homeowner acknowledged in writing), may not negotiate the claim for the homeowner, and may not promise to pay or rebate the deductible.

Federal, for AC and heat pump quotes
Minimum AC efficiency (Southeast)
A split-system central air conditioner installed in the federal Southeast region on or after January 1, 2023 must be rated at least 14.3 SEER2 if its certified cooling capacity is under 45,000 Btu/hr (3.75 tons), and at least 13.8 SEER2 at 45,000 Btu/hr or more; an outdoor unit with a certified combination below that level cannot be installed in the region. A split-system heat pump made on or after that date needs at least 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2.
